National High Blood Pressure Education Month

Since high blood pressure is very dangerous for health, as it is associated with serious cardiovascular diseases, it is important to raise awareness about it so that you can be more careful about their daily lifestyle.

Did you know?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) about 1 in 3 Americans has hypertension (that’s about 70 million people!) but, only half of them actually know that they have high blood pressure.

That means that a lot of people have high blood pressure and don’t even know it, a scenario that can be very dangerous to vitality and health.

What Causes High Blood Pressure?

Is high blood pressure just something that you are born with and that’s that? Or, is there something that you can do about it?

Well, oftentimes, the exact cause of hypertension remains elusive. But, here are some factors that play a role in the manifestation of high blood pressure:

  • 1/20 of hypertension cases is due to medication or some other underlying condition

  • Chronic kidney disease may cause hypertension because the kidneys are unable to filter out fluid, ultimately leading to high blood pressure

  • The following risk factors may increase the chances of having high blood pressure:

    • Being over 60 years old

    • Being of certain ethnicity

    • Your body size and weight

    • Your gender

    • Your alcohol and tobacco use

    • Pre-existing health conditions

    • Your diet (salt-rich diets, diets with processed foods, and low potassium diets contribute to hypertension)

    • Physical inactivity

Some of these factors you may not have any control over. But for other risk factors, you do have control over and you may need help from a health coach. We offer our services online for your convenience. If you need us, please contact us via our contact page https://myhealthypotential.net/contact/
