Omega-3 fatty acid is a type of unsaturated fat that may help fight heart disease. It has gained a lot of attention in the recent past for its alleged ability to:

  • decrease the level of triglycerides (harmful fat in blood),
  • reduce inflammations in the body,
  • lower blood pressure,
  • and reduce blood clotting that may lead to heart attack and stroke.

Foods Rich in Omega-3’s 

Fish is a good source of omega-3 (look for mackerel, salmon, herring and sardines) and should be on the menu at least once a week. Other food sources of omega-3 are walnuts, flax seeds, chia seeds, and soy beans. (If such food is not an option, there are also omega-3 supplements available in the market!)
