Foods rich in saturated fats contribute to raising levels of bad cholesterol in the blood and can therefore promote the development of heart disease.

Saturated fats are most prominent in foods that come from animal sources like so-called red meat (lamb, pork, beef), poultry skin, dairy products (butter, cheese, cream), processed meat, and lard.

Also, palm oil and coconut oil are plant based but are also high in saturated fats and should be avoided for cooking.

It’s always important to read the food labels when shopping and try to avoid saturated fats and replace them with monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.
